Zoo Songs

Going To The Zoo
Words and Music by Tom Paxton

Daddy's taking us to the zoo tomorrow,
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow;
Daddy's taking us to the zoo tomorrow,
We can stay all day.

Chorus:
We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo;
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too.
We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

See the elephant with the long trunk swingin',
Great big ears and long trunk swingin',
Snuffin' up peanuts with the long trunk swingin';
We can stay all day.

 Chorus

See all the monkeys scritch scritch scratchin',
Jumpin' all around and scritch scritch scratchin',
Hangin' by their long tails scritch scritch scratchin';
We can stay all day.

Chorus

Big black bear, all a huff huff a-puffin';
Coat's too heavy, he's huff huff a-puffin',
Don't get too near the huff huff a-puffin',
Or you won't stay all day.

Chorus

Seals in the pool all honk honk honkin',
Catchin' fish and honk honk honkin',
Little seals honk honk honkin'; (high pitched voice)
We can stay all day.

Chorus

(Slower tempo)
We stayed all day and we're gettin' sleepy,
Sittin' in the car gettin' sleep sleep sleepy,
Home already and we're sleep sleep sleepy,
We have stayed all day.

Chorus, Alternate
We've been to the zoo, zoo, zoo;
So have you, you, you.
You came too, too, too,
We've been to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

Momma's taking us to the zoo tomorrow,
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow;
Momma's taking us to the zoo tomorrow,
We can stay all day.

Chorus

The Animals at the Zoo

The snake at the zoo goes Hiss Hiss Hiss Hiss Hiss Hiss
The Snake at the zoo goes Hiss Hiss Hiss
All day long

The lion at the zoo goes Roar Roar Roar Roar Roar Roar
The lion at the zoo goes Roar Roar Roar
All day long

The bear at the zoo goes Grr Grr Grr Grr Grr Grr
The bear at the zoo goes Grr Grr Grr
All day long

(Add other animals)

Oh, Have You Seen the Animals?
Tune:  “The Muffin Man”

[Teacher asks]
Oh, have you seen the animals,
The animals, the animals.
Oh, have you seen the animals,
That live down at the zoo?

[Children respond]
Yes, we’ve seen the animals,
The animals, the animals.
Yes, we’ve seen the animals,
That live down at the zoo.

[Let children take turns and name an animal to sing about – such as]
I have seen an elephant,
An elephant, an elephant.
I have seen an elephant,
Who lives down at the zoo.

Alligator Math: Which One is More?

   The greater than and less than symbol can be very confusing for young children. An Alligators mouth is a useful tool; to show kids which end of the symbol points the large or small number.

    Alligators are big and hungry! His open mouth is like the wide side of the symbol <. When you are super hungry you would rather have a whole plate full of yummy food than just one spoon full.  The same goes for the alligator he want the one with the MOST food. So which one would the alligator want to eat?

Q: Would he eat two red pentagon buttons or three green pentagon button?

A: He would eat the three green pentagon buttons! 2 < 3, or Two is less than Three.

Q:Would he eat three heart buttons or one green pentagon?

A:He would eat the three hearts ! 3>1   or Three is greater than one.

Our alligator tool was made from craft foam and googly eyes. They could easily be prepared for a whole classroom.
