Barn Yard Shape Animals

Shapes are the building blocks to math. These shape creatures help demonstrate shapes in everyday life.  Give children a shape and have them fold it in half and decorate the shape to look like an animal or other everyday object such as a house or a tree.

Discuss with the children:
                How many sides are there?
Why does the circle rock while the other shapes do not?
Does the shape make a new shape after it is folded?
This exercise gives children a better understanding symmetry, shapes, and how they can be manipulated.
